Distance Education

The distance education offices are located in the Woodfin Center for Instructional Technology on the main Kilgore campus across from the Oil Museum. Office hours are 8-4 Monday thru Friday. Contact Information.

Still need help after you complete orientation? You may call our distance education support line. It is operational the first 3 weeks of long semesters and the first 2 weeks of the first summer session. Hours are Monday thru Thursday from 11am-7pm, Friday and Saturday from 8am until Noon. Call 903.988.3704 or come by the Woodfin Center on the Kilgore Campus. You can also send an email to: techsupr@kilgore.edu Be sure to include a description of the problem you are having, your name, and the course you are having trouble with.

Library

The Watson Library has a variety of services available to distance education students. These include online databases, inter-library loan services, and personalized assistance for your information needs. If you are taking a telecourse, you will check out your videotapes in the library.

Learning Resources

Online tutoring is available via SmartThinking. With SmartThinking, you can:

	Connect with an e-structor and interact with a live tutor
	Submit your writing for any class to the online writing lab
	Submit a question and receive a reply from a tutor.

Follow these steps to get started with SmartThinking:

Go to www.kilgore.edu and click on the CampusConnect logo on the home page

Log in to CampusConnect using your student ID and your PIN

Click on the tab titled "Student Information" and then click on SmartThinking on the drop down menu

On your first visit, click on the New Student Login on the left. This will allow you to set up your SmartThinking account. You can set your own user name and password.

After you have set up your account, you can access SmartThinking in either of two ways: Log in through CampusConnect (you will see the Login for returning students on the right) -or- Log in directly at www.smarthinking.com at the upper right of the home page.

The Bone Learning Center, located on the 2nd floor of the Watson Library houses a general-use computer lab and developmental labs for English, Reading, and Mathematics. Hours for the general lab during the long semester are Monday thru Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. All of the labs are staffed with personnel to assist distance learners with their various educational needs.

Special Populations

The college offers support services to students who are occupational education majors and are classified as a special population (single parents, displaced homemakers, persons with disabilities, students with majors nontraditional for their gender, limited English proficiency students, and economically or academically disadvantaged students). Testing Center

The Kilgore College Testing Center provides testing services to distance education students. They are also available to assist with making alternative testing arrangements when a visit to the campus is not possible. The testing center is located on the 2nd floor of the Devall Student Center on the main Kilgore College campus.

Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and Thursday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday. Testing is not available on Friday.

Students must schedule their testing at least 24 hours in advance through the testing office. A photo ID is required.
