Resources
| Currently enrolled Kilgore College students, faculty, and staff
have remote access to Library resources. EZproxy
facilitates off-campus access to web-based, licensed resources (e.g.,
databases and electronic journals) for affiliated users. EZproxy requires
no browser configuration on the part of the user and automatically
prompts for login information when necessary. |
To connect with EZproxy:
- Visit http://kcfac.kilgore.edu/library
and navigate the web site as usual.
- When you select a licensed resource, you may be prompted for a username
and password. EZproxy automatically determines whether login information
is necessary.
- If prompted, please enter:
- username: last name (e.g.,williams) with no punctuation
- password: the combination of
- first 4 letters of last name
- first 4 letters of first name
- last 4 digits of Social Security #
- with no spaces, dashes, or any kind of punctuation (e.g., smitbarn1234)
- You will be automatically transferred to the resource you selected.

Why do I need to use the proxy service to access Library resources?
Contracts with our database vendors require us to restrict access to faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students of Kilgore College. When on-campus (i.e., within the KC computing network), connections to subscription resources are automatic. Off-campus access requires login through a proxy server. By using EZproxy, your browser becomes part of the Kilgore College network, regardless of your location. When you attempt to access a library resource, you will be prompted to log in with a username (your last name) and password (the combination of the first 4 letters of your last name, first 4 letters of your first name, and last 4 digits of SS# number without spaces, dashes, or punctuation). This information is matched against the library patron database and those in authorized patron groups will be connected.
When do I need to use the proxy service?
You need to choose a method for remote access if:
- you are connecting to the library from off-campus
- you are on-campus but are using an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to connect to the web (e.g., AOL).
What are my options for remote access?
- EZproxy - no configuration necessary. [Instructions]
What browsers are supported?
- EZproxy - is browser independent, i.e., any browser should work with EZproxy. However, some ISPs use Internet accelerators that interfere with EZproxy, please disable if you have difficulty connecting.
Which Internet Service Providers (ISP) have difficulty with Ezproxy?
- Some ISPs use Internet accelerators that interfere with EZproxy, please disable if you have difficulty connecting.
- Wal-Mart Connect does not work properly with Ezproxy.
- Juno does not work properly with Ezproxy.
