How are the Books Arranged?
General Information > About the Library > Need Help? > How are the Books Arranged?
The main circulating collection is located upstairs. The reference collection,
which does not circulate, includes encyclopedias and dictionaries located
downstairs. Next to the reference collection are the current journals,
periodicals, and newspapers.
The library recently converted from the Dewey Decimal Classification
(DDC) shelving scheme to the Library of Congress Classification (LCC)
shelving scheme. Most of the circulating collection (upstairs) is now
LCC. There are about four shelving ranges with DDC titles. The reference
collection downstairs is still mostly DDC, with some LCC titles.
The Dewey Decimal titles are gradually being converted to Library of
Congress and some confusion may occur as you browse the shelves. Tables
have been created to help you search for specific subjects in both the
Library of Congress and
Dewey Decimal classification
schemes.
Please ask a library staff member if you need assistance locating a particular
book or item. You can also use our email reference service "Ask-A-Librarian" if you are not in the library.
