Creating a Works Cited Page Automatically in Word

How to cite works and create a Work Cited page in Word:

Click the References tab – check the Style – at KC we use MLA

Click Insert Citation drop down arrow – if it’s the first time for this source choose add new source and enter the reference information (Doe) – you will get your source name inserted.  If you need to include the page number, click on the reference, chick the drop down arrow, choose edit citation, type in the page number (Doe 789)

For the next reference using the same source, just click Insert Citation and choose the source you want to use (Doe)

To add a second reference, add it the same way! (Grotefendt)

New Source (Lincoln)

To create the Works Cited Page simply insert a page break(ctrl enter) and on the References ribbon, click the Bibliography button, choosing “Works Cited”.  Your Works Cited page will be alphabetized automatically!!!

If you add a new source to your document after you have created your Works Cited Page, click the Works Cited page text. Your Works Cited will but highlighted, with a box around it.  At the top of the box will be a button Update Sources and Bibliography that you should click to update you Works Cited – it will automatically alphabetize the sources.
