Greetings from the Director

Welcome to Kilgore College's Distance Education program  This web site will inform you of the general information you will need to become a successful distance education student.  It will also provide you with specific information from your instructor on how to complete your course.  Please take time to read the information carefully and bookmark this web site for easy reference.  Use the links at the bottom of this page to navigate your way through the orientation website.

Remember, as a distance learner you have access to all of the support services available to traditional students.  Many of these are described on this web site, while services including financial aid, counseling, job placement and others are available on the main Kilgore College web site.  www.kilgore.edu

Generally, the way this online orientation works is that before the deadline you will:

  1. Visit each general distance education orientation page using navigation buttons at the bottom of each page (see the "Next" button at the bottom of this page), then
  2. Visit the orientation page for each type of course you are enrolled in, then
  3. Visit the orientation page for each distance education course you are enrolled in.

As a former distance learner myself, the best advice I have for you is to:

bulletGet started as soon as possible on your coursework as it will have a positive effect on your overall performance in the course, and to
bulletSet aside several hours each week to complete your work, and remember
bulletDistance education courses are not necessarily self-paced - there may be deadlines for completing your work.  Be sure to check the information for your course for these dates, print them and put them in the front of a special notebook or make a notation on a special calendar.

If after reading your course orientation materials you still have specific questions be sure to contact your instructor as soon as possible.  If you are having technical problems or are unable to receive a timely response from your instructor, please contact the Distance Education Office.  We hope that your distance education course will be a fulfilling experience for you and that it will help you attain your educational goals.

Sincerely,

Charleen Worsham
