Online Orientation

Follow these steps to locate, enroll and get started in our distance education courses.

  1. Locate your course.  Below is a list of courses offered this semester via distance learning.  Details are also listed in the body of the schedule publication.  If you can’t find the course you need in our schedule, Kilgore College participates in the Virtual College of Texas For the catalog description of courses, see:  http://www.kilgore.edu/catalog_2006-2007.asp

  2. Check your skills & resources.  Online courses require basic computer skills and the ability to browse the Internet. Students should be familiar with MS PowerPoint and MS Word

    To
determine your level of readiness for taking online courses, take the READI (Readiness for Education At a Distance Indicator) assessment.  You will receive a personalized report via email.

To set up your account, go to http://kilgore.readi.info

    Username is:  Kilgore

    Password is:  Student

Be sure to note any special lab software or other requirements as noted in the course list below.

  3. Enroll.  Students follow the same procedures for enrolling in distance education courses as they do for traditional courses.

  4. Attend online orientation.  You will learn how to get started and complete your course by visiting the orientation web site.  The online orientation web site will be updated for the fall semester on August 25th.  Most distance learning classes officially start on August 27th unless otherwise noted in the course schedule – orientation should be completed before class starts. (See orientation link below.)

  5. Contact us if you are having problems.  The last step in orientation is to send an email to your instructor.  If you are having problems that can’t be resolved with your instructor, contact the Distance Education Department.

If you access online orientation materials before August 25, 2008, you may not receive the most recent updates.

The following courses run from August 25, 2008 to December 11, 2008 with online orientation completion dates between August 25 - 29, 2008 unless otherwise noted in the "Special" column below.
